Coast Guard ship Vaibhav rescues fisherman 8 hours after falling overboard

A crew member named Devrajan aged 41 years of Indian Fishing Boat RR on Wednesday who was feared lost due to accidental fall into the sea in the dark hours was rescued by Indian Coast Guard Ship Vaibhav. The ship whilst on patrol in Gulf of Mannar received a wireless call for help regarding man overboard from the fishing boat which was about 60 km SE of Pamban Light at about 11.30 pm on 8 January.

The ship immediately shaped course for the position and reached at about 5.20 am, and commenced calculated search so as to locate the fisherman at the earliest, said an official statement.
The Coast Guard Ship found and rescued 41-year-old Devrajan at about 7.30 am who had been in the water for nearly 08 hours. He was immediately administered first aid by medical team on board Vaibhav and his condition is stated to be stable.

The Coast Guard Ship proceeded towards Taruvaikkulam (near Thoothukudi) and handed over the fishermen to fisheries officials. In the past too, the Coast Guard had come to the rescue of fishermen and rescued them during the times of distress. It played a key role when the cyclone Ockhi struck Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
