Coast Guard conducts quiz for school students in Chennai

To commemorate 43rd raising day of Indian Coast Guard, various activities are being conducted throughout the country where the Coast Guard units are located.  In line with this, Indian Coast Guard Region (East) conducted various events for the local Chennai populace. As part of the celebrations, an inter-school quiz competition was held onboard Indian Coast Guard Ship Sagar, which is based at Chennai.

Students studying in classes IX to XII participated in the event. About 22 schools from Chennai participated in the competition. Among them Kendriya Vidyalaya Avadi emerged as winner, Sri Sankara Secondary School emerged as first runner up and Balavidya Mandir emerged as second runner up. The Commander  Coast Guard Region (East), Inspector General S Paramesh, TM, congratulated the winners. Director, Kalakshetra foundation, Revathi Ramachandran, was the chief guest for the event and gave away prizes to the winners of the event.

The competition was to enhance general awareness, test current world affairs, scientific temperament and inquisitiveness among the students, as well as to showcase Indian Coast Guard as a career option to the next generation youth of India. The Indian Coast Guard protects India's maritime interests and enforces maritime law, with jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India, including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone.
