An old couple in Tirunelveli fought two masked robbers and attacked them. They thwarted a robbery bid. The couple, Shanmugavel (70) and Senthamarai (65), reside in a neighbourhood in Thirunelveli. A CCTV footage of Shanmugavel being attacked by a thief and he attacking him was going viral. His wife Senthamarai joined him in the attack and they made sure the thirves run away even though they had an aruval in their hand.
The couple threw anything and everything they can get their hands on at the dacoits until they eventually flee the spot. The brave act by the elderly couple has been lauded by several people on social media including Bollywood actor amitabh Bachchan.Recognising their bravery, the State government has announced a bravery award for their efforts.
