Classic Wednesday - Kadhalikka Neramillai : Best rom-com ever in Tamil cinema

Romance and comedy are two sides of same coin in Tamil cinema. Many movies on such genres have always made it big. Perhaps the first and best to achieve this feat in Tamil cinema history was Kadhalikka Neramillai. Made in Eastman Colour in 1964, it has lived fresh and wooed almost all generation of movie-lovers. It was remade in many languages too. Master of comedy films, Sridhar made this movie. And he had a pool of talented artistes to pull this off in Kadhalikka Neramillai.

Nagesh, Balaiah, Muthuraman, Ravichandiran, Sachu, V S Raghavan, Kanchana, Rajashree among others, it has music by M S Viswanathan. In nutshell, the movie was about Muthuraman coming as father to Muthuraman to an estate  at Balaiah's sprawling Estate. Both Muthuraman and Ravichandran fall love for Balaiah's daughters. There is Nagesh, a wannabe director as Balaiah's son. 

The dialogues are witty and humourous. Songs were cool and chartbusters then. Vishwanathan Velai Vendum, Ungal ponnana kaigal punnagalama and Kadhalikka Neramillai are huge hit songs. Balaiah acting, Nagesh's timig comedy, Ravichandran and Muthuraman;s acting prowess made it a hugte hit. A pillar of strength for the movie was Chitralaya Gopu. His dialogues brought the roof down with laughter.  Even today, it remains the best ever rom-com movie in Tamil cinema.
