Greater Chennai city Police Commissioner A K Viswanathan has launched an online portal through which citizens/private companies can apply for verification services on the Tamil Nadu police website (www.eservices.tnpolice.gov.in). Along with the ADGP of the state crime records bureau Seema Agarwal, the commisisoner launched the service and expressed hope that it would be of great help to people. He said this will help house owners and employers get a verified police certificate to ensure whether a candidate is free of any criminal background. Likewise, companies too can do verification about their candidates.
Speaking on the occasion, Viswanathan said, "The aim of the police verification services is to verify the identity of a person, his/her current address and to check if he/she is involved in any criminal case as per records available with Tamil Nadu police." Stating that aid the new system was foolproof and citizen-centric, he added that the police had received 2,27,698 applications for verification for issuing passports in 2018. Of them, only 505 applications were pending while others had been disposed of.
A charge of Rs 500 per application has been fixed for individuals and Rs 1,000 per application for private companies/institutions. The applicants can pay online using credit or debit cards and through net banking.
