Even as hash tags #SaveAbhinandan and #BringBackAbhinandan trended on the social media, Wing Commander Abhinandan from Chennai, who was captured by Pakistan on Wednesday, stayed brave and cool in the custody. IAS Association tweeted: "Braveheart IAF Pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Vardhaman should be returned to India without any harm as per Geneva convention. #BringBackAbhinandan."
The Pakistan Army released a 46-second video in which Abhinandan, son of an Air Force veteran based in Chennai, showing braveness and calmness. With a cup of tea, when Abhinandan is asked which place he hails from, he replied coolly, "Am I supposed to tell you this?" and further added he is from "down south." When asked which aircraft he was flying, Abhinandan replied, " I am not supposed to tell you this but I am sure you have found the wreckage". He did not answer when asked what his mission was.
Pakistan Armed Forces spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor tweeted that there is only one IAF pilot under Pakistan army’s custody and he is being "treated as per norms of military ethics".
Meanwhile, his residence at Madambakkam in Chennai was thronged by politicians and residents, who expressed their support to the pilot's family members. Prashant Kishor tweeted: "India needs just ONE campaign #BringBackAbhinandan Everything else can wait! Be sensible to #SayNoToWar."
