Chennai hospital re-designated as WHO Collaborating Centre

M V Hospital for Diabetes and Prof M Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre, Royapuram, Chennai, has been re-designated as WHO Collaborating Centre for Research, Education and Training in Diabetes for the 5th consecutive time since 2002.  According to a press note, this honour recognizes M V Hospital for Diabetes as the first and only Diabetes hospital in India to receive such commendation in Diabetes prevention and management.

Dr. Vijay Viswanathan, Head and Chief Diabetologist, M.V. Hospital for Diabetes and Prof. M Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre, Royapuram, Chennai continues to be the Head of the Collaborating Center for the period 2019 to 2022. "M. V Hospital for Diabetes and Prof M Viswanathan Diabetes Research Center, Royapuram Chennai earned this distinction for the 5th consecutive period following its excellence in innovation, service and commitment in the field of diabetes. It has maintained this accreditation and level of excellence for the past 4 terms, establishing its dedication towards various WHO programs in the field of diabetes to become the first and only hospital and research institution in India to gain this accreditation for the fifth consecutive term."

Dr. Vijay Viswanathan said, “WHO has defined the terms as prevention and identification of predictors of Diabetes and its complications. Under the WHO leadership, M.V Hospital for Diabetes and Prof M Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre Royapuram Chennai will continue to strengthen the education and training in Diabetes prevention and management and develop methods for reducing diabetes risk factors at the community level."

Under WHO leadership and collaboration, M.V. Hospital for Diabetes and Prof. M Viswanathan Diabetes Research Centre, Royapuram, Chennai continue to conduct epidemiological research on prevention and identification of predictors of diabetes and its complications and its associated co-morbid conditions of public health importance.
