Chandrayaan-2 inserted into Lunar Obit

The Indian Space Agency on Tuesday achieved a significant milestone, when Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft, launchedfrom SHAR Range in Sriharikota on July 22, entered into the LunarOrbit, for a scheduled soft landing on the Moon's South Pole on 7 September. ISRO in its update said the Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) manoeuver was completed successfully today at 0902 hrs as planned, using theon board propulsion system.

The duration of manoeuver was 1,738 seconds. With this, Chandrayaan-2 was successfully inserted into a Lunar orbit. The orbit achieved was 114 km x 18,072 km.Following this, a series of orbit maneuvers will be performed on theChandrayaan-2 spacecraft to enable it to enter its final orbit passing over the lunar poles at a distance of about 100 km from the Moon’s surface.
