Cauvery Committee meets in Delhi, TN raises key issues

The Cauvery Water Management Authority meeting held in New Delhi today, where a number of issues, including expectation of monsoon rainfall and water storage in the Cauvery basin reservoirs, were reportedly discussed.

The meeting, chaired by Central Water Commission chairman H Masood Husain, also deliberated on issues related to release of water from the upper riparian states to the lower riparian states.
The Tamil Nadu government raised many key issues at the crucial meeting of the Cauvery Water Management Authority, which included releasing of water and withdrawal of permission given for preparing the Detailed Project Report for constructing a dam across Cauvery river at Mekedatu.

CWMA’s last meeting was held last year in the July. This is the second time when Authority will meet at Delhi. “Though belated, the meeting is timely now for delta as we require water," said P Maniarasan, coordinator of the Cauvery Urimai Meetpu Kuzhu on Monday.
