As details of votes counted during the initial rounds started pouring in, it looks like the Bharatiya Janata Party is heading towards forming government again. As per trends in the morning, BJP was leading in 323 seats, Congress in 109 seats and other parties in the remaining Lok Sabha constituencies.
A party or an alliance needs 271 seats to form the government as Lok Sabha elections were held on 542 of the 543 seats. Earlier, exit polls had predicted that the BJP-led alliance will return to power after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The exit polls put NDA safely above the majority mark at 312. Twelve of 14 exit polls predicted the NDA getting full majority with seats ranging seats from 282 to 365.
