Baby trade: Govt cracks whip

In an important development in the case of illegal infants kidnap case in Rasipuram, the ambulance driver and Amudhavalli’s husband have been suspended. Recently, an audio surfaced on social media that gave way to unearth the trafficking case. The policemen during the inquiry identified that the retired nurse Amudhavalli, with the aid of her husband, Ravichandran, who works as an assistant at Rasipuram Cooperative society, were involved in selling the babies acquiring from below poverty line couples.

The network involved in the Namakkal baby trade keeps getting bigger and murkier. Two days after the district police detained retired nurse Amudha, her husband Ravichander and a government ambulance driver, Murugesan, two women and a man from the private health care sector have also been detained for questioning. Interrogations over the last few days have revealed that Murugesan alone has brought in more than eight children to Amudha to be trafficked.
