Chennai Super Kings defeated Kings XI Punjab by 22 runs, here at Chepauk as the defending champions secured their fourth victory to go to the top of the points table. Chasing a total of 161, KXIP started poorly as Harbhajan Singh took the wickets of Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal. KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan however kept the chase live as they stitched together a 100-run partnership between them.
Both the batsmen kept the chase live and brought their fifties. Sarfraz Khan by scoring 67 runs was particularly impressive with his drives and scoops that yielded Punjab boundaries and helped him score his maiden IPL fift. However, it was not easy for the pair to negate the CSK spinners and 50 needed off the last four overs. They succumbed to the pressure.
