AIADMK MP killed in road accident

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Villupuram Lok Sabha MP S Rajendran died in a road accident in Tindivanam this morning. He was 62. Police said the accident took place at around 6.30 am, when  Rajendran, who was staying in the Circuit House in Tindivanam, was on his way to Chennai. Rajendran was a graduate from the University of Madras with a Bachelors degree in Tamil Literature. After being elected into the House, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers and the Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

Tindivanam police said the car he was travelling hit the centre median of the road. In the impact, the car toppled, causing grievous injuries to him, the driver and two others in the vehicle. All four were taken to the nearest hospital, where Rajendran passed away. The remaining three were getting treatment. The AIADMK has cancelled all its programmes in Villupuram district following the death of Rajendran.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, the party's joint coordinator, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, the AIADMK's coordinator and other leaders have condoled the death of Rajendran. Sources said Rajendran last night took part in the dinner hosted by PMK founder S Ramadoss to Palaniswami, Panneerselvam and other leaders of the AIADMK.
