The ruling AIADMK's Sulur legislator Kanagaraj passed away today. According to sources, Kanakaraj suffered a massive cardiac arrest when he was reading newspaper this morning. He was rushed to a hospital nearby but he was declared dead by doctors, sources added. The 64-year-old was a strongman of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in Coimbatore district.
He is survived by his wife Rathinam, a son and a daughter. Leaders have condoled his death and expressed shock over it. His body has been kept for public homage at his residence in Sultanpet.Recently, Kanagaraj said the downfall of DMDK was triggered only because of the way in Vijayakanth spoke in the Assembly. “DMDK might get 500 or 1,000 votes. Holding alliance talks with both the parties is a big mistake,” he had said.
Replying to a question on the reported remarks by Premalatha Vijayakanth that Vijayakanth had stood up against former Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa in the State assembly, Sulur MLA, Kanagaraj said that it was Jayalalithaa who made Vijayakanth the opposition leader and his behaviour had led to the fall of the party. Expressing hope that DMDK would join the alliance (the DMDK joined the AIADMK-led alliance later), he said that it would get some 500 to 1,000 additional votes to the alliance.
“It is her personal opinion,” he answered to a question on the remarks by Premalatha that the 37 AIADMK MPs had done nothing for Tamil Nadu.
