AIADMK manifesto ready, handed over to EPS-OPS

The election manifesto of the AIADMK for the 2019 general elections is ready and was handed over to party coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and co-coordinator and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at the party headquarters this morning by the committee tasked to formulate it. Handing over the copy to the top brass of the AIADMK, former Minister and head of the manifesto committee C Ponnaiyan said they had been working on it for the past one month.

"If there are corrections to be carried out in the manifesto, it would be done in a week’s time," he added. AIADMK has formed alliance with PMK, BJP and other parties. Vijayakanth-led DMDK is expected to join the alliance soon. On Wednesday, a mega campaign meeting took place in Chennai in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders took part. On the occasion, Modi announced that the Centre has decided to rename the Chennai Central Railway Station after late chief minister M G Ramachandran.

"We have decided to rename the Chennai Central Station after the great MGR," he said amid thunderous applause from the people. Modi recalled that as many as 50 governments were dismissed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi using Article 356. Even the DMK had become a victim, he said and hit out at the Dravidian party led by M K Stalin, saying "opportunism has prevailed over values". “We are also seriously thinking about ensuring that flights to and from Tamil Nadu have in-flight announcements in Tamil language,” he added.
