AIADMK files complaint against Kanimozhi

The ruling AIADMK has filed a complaint against DMK's Tuticorin candidate Kanimozhi, accusing her of distributing cash during campaign. The AIADMK lodged the complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer here, alleging cash distribution by the DMK during the poll campaign of party candidate Kanimozhi in Tuticorin, which was refuted by the main opposition party. AIADMK's election wing deputy secretary and MLA I S Inbadurai, in his complaint, alleged that a video clip showing distribution of cash by a DMK leader during the campaign trail of Kanimozhi has "gone viral." A video has gone viral wherein Kanimozhi can be seen standing in the presence of other women.

The women performed the traditional 'aarti' where a camphor is lit and is moved before the person in circular motion from head to toe. At the end of this, Kanimozhi is seen taking out money and distributing it amongst the women. Inbadurai said that Kanimozhi has violated the Model Code of Conduct by distributing lump-sum amounts to women, who performed 'aarti'.The cash distribution is a criminal offence and also against the Model Code of Conduct and hence Kanimozhi's nomination papers should be rejected and action taken against her, the AIADMK leader said in the complaint.
