The State government's decision to rise Aavin milk prices came to effect today. Milk procurement price has been increased by Rs 4 and Rs 6 for cow and buffalo milk respectively. As per the revised structure, prices of all variants of milk will be increased by Rs 6 per litre. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami had clarified the risk in Aavin milk price and expressed confidence that it would not affect people, the hike that came into effect this morning is sure to pinch a hole in our pockets, say many across Tamilnadu.In 2018-19, Aavin sold over 12 lakh litres in Chennai every day.
The last revision in milk prices was in 2014, when the state government hiked it by Rs 10 per litre following demands from milk producers. MDMK leader Vaiko, CPI Kerala State Secretary K Balakrishnan, CPI State Secretary R Mutharasan, Viduthalai Siruthai Party leader Thol Thirumavalavan, DMK MP Kanimozhi, Justice Party leader T Velmurugan and Congress ex leader Thirunavukarasar condoled the hike.
