Filmmaker Thiagarajan Kumararaja, who made a name for himself with Aaranya Kaandam is back with a bang after almost eight years. This time much sharper and more convincing stuff. An attempt that is very close to real. The writer in the filmmaker should be credited for his sincere attempt and that is very innovative and catchy. For those who love serious cinema, here is Super Deluxe. In a nutshell, the movie is about five people who have that one fine day in their life that changes everything. The wisdom that they gain due to their experience make up the movie.
This story revolves around a couple who try to dispose a dead body, a little boy gets a surprise when he meets his estranged father, a son discovers his mother’s other side, a religious man starts having doubts over his God. The connect between them forms up the crux. There is a couple Vembu (Samantha) and Mukhil (Fahadh Faasil).
They have problems in their relationship. There is a trans person Shilpa (Vijay Sethupathi), who decides to return to her family. There is Arputham (Mysskin), who gets a second life after he is saved from tsunami and Leela (Ramya Krishnan), an ex-porn star who struggles all ways and means to save her injured son. What happens in their lives forms the crux.
The movie is everything but original. There are few characters that are well-etched. The pen of Thiagarajan Kumaraja jas made sure that Shilpa is the reflection of the reality in society. Vijay Sethupathi in his best and his hard work and dialogue delivery are hallmark of the show. Fahadh and Samantha instantly likeable in the show. They portray their roles to perfection.
Mysskin and Ramya Krishnan are the two who are solid. Mysskin's role is complex and bold Ramya Krishnan steal the show. The young boy Ashwath wins our hearts. The grammar of filmmaking is broken. The filmmaker treads a new path, that is not travelled before. There are double entendre, revenge, emotion and anger in it. Super Deluxe lives up to its title.
